A Message from Our Principal

Welcome to the South Decatur Elementary School webpage!

My name is Nicole Stone, and I am the proud principal of South Decatur Elementary. As we begin this new academic year, I am eager to begin working with the dedicated staff, students, and community. This is my third year as principal of SDES, prior I served as a teacher, coach, and most recently the assistant principal here for the last four years. My family is built on educators, and I mean every word when I say, I truly love school! I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Ball State University in 2009. I then received my Master of Education in School Administration degree from Indiana University in 2016. My vision for South Decatur Elementary is to provide students with a love of learning that inspires and motivates them to be lifelong learners, caring contributors to the world around them, and confident in all of their unique abilities to succeed.

My husband, Paul, is a business owner here in Greensburg. We have three boys, Luke who is nine, Cole who is eight, and Grant who is two. We love spending time together and when I am not at school, I’m probably at a sporting event or spending time with family and friends. We love camping, boating, and spending time outside.

South Decatur Elementary takes pride in our commitment to provide a quality education to all students in grades kindergarten through sixth grade. We are a 1:1 school with the use of our iPads and a focus on digital experiences that prepare our students for the future. We serve and support all students’ needs; including those in the general education classrooms, special education programming, speech and communication programming, physical and occupational therapies, high ability/gifted and talented education, ELL (English Language Learners), STEM, Response to Instruction focusing on literacy, math and behavior, music, art, physical education, library and media center services, and preschool are a few of the many things we have to offer. We also provide a variety of after-school activities including boys and girls' basketball, Honors Art and Music, Spell Bowl, Math Bowl, and Robotics.

I look forward to the continued partnership with the SDES families and staff that is built on trust and genuine compassion. We know how important it is for us to work together as we have the same goal of each individual student’s success at heart. I encourage you to stop in or call me to share ideas, concerns, or questions. I wish your family, and especially your student(s), great success this school year!

Sincerely,

Nicole Stone
